DJ equipment checklist: pack by signal path
Build a venue-specific list with tested primary items, backups and return checks.
Start with the actual signal path
| Stage | Primary check | Backup question |
|---|---|---|
| Playback | Library available and tested | Can another source reach the mixer? |
| Control/mix | Correct power and data leads | What survives a controller fault? |
| Output | Correct balanced cable type | Are adapters tested and labelled? |
| Power | Rated distribution and venue supply | Are cable routes protected? |
| Microphone | Fresh batteries and soundcheck | Is a wired option available? |
Build the working checklist
- Start from venue-provided and DJ-provided responsibilities.
- Add the exact cable at every connection, not a generic “cables” row.
- Record quantity, packed location, test status and return status.
- Add event-specific items only after the core signal path is complete.
- Run a bench test, then pack tested items without swapping them.
Never improvise unsafe mains power, overhead mounting or load-bearing structures. Use competent professionals where required.
