Guide
DJ set preparation: from library to soundcheck
Turn a musical brief into tested options, cue information and a resilient performance plan.
Prepare in layers
- Brief: note audience, setting, timings, explicit restrictions and required moments.
- Library: verify files, metadata, clean/explicit status and local availability.
- Selection: create broad energy and style clusters with alternatives.
- Transitions: rehearse only the joins with real risk or importance.
- Resilience: export backups using a method you have already tested.
- Soundcheck: verify routing, levels, monitoring and microphone before guests depend on them.
Example preparation record
| Track role | What to record | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Opener option | Energy 2/5, clean intro | Use if room is still filling |
| Tempo bridge | 122→126 BPM rehearsal | Four-step change tested |
| Required moment | Exact version and cue | Local backup verified |
| Closer option | Venue curfew fit | Two lengths prepared |
Key and BPM are useful labels, not proof that two recordings work together. Confirm with your ears at realistic monitoring level.
